Wagner–Span carbon dioxide reference
This is an empirical high-precision reference EOS for carbon dioxide that covers the whole fluid range. It is of the Wagner type; its form and the values of its (more than 50) parameters were optimized for carbon dioxide. The EOS cannot be used for other substances.
The EOS cannot be used for metastable states; the behaviour for densities between the liquid and the gas density (at subcritical temperatures) is erratic.
