van der Waals
This is one of the oldest EOS, and probably — after the EOS of the perfect gas — the best known. It is the ancestor of the cubic equations, i.e., the calculation of volumes for given temperature and pressure leads to a cubic equation.
The EOS exhibits all features of “realistic” equations of state, but is only qualitatively correct.
